Meet Willow

Director of Comfort & FUN Development

Every House needs heart.

Ours has four paws.

Meet Willow, Ronald McDonald House Coastal Empire’s certified therapy dog and one of the most beloved members of our team.

Willow has a pretty important job around here.

She welcomes families.
She comforts children.
She sits quietly with parents.
She brightens difficult days.
And she has never once complained about working overtime—as long as treats are involved.

But behind the wagging tail and irresistible face is a therapy dog with a very real purpose.

Willow helps make our House feel like home.

Trained for Comfort. Born for FUN.

Willow is an Australian Labradoodle selected for her gentle temperament, affectionate personality and allergy-friendly coat.

As a certified therapy dog, Willow is trained to interact calmly and appropriately with children and adults experiencing stressful situations.

And around Ronald McDonald House, stressful situations aren’t hard to find.

Families arrive carrying worries that most of us can only imagine. Days at the hospital can be long. Sleep can be short. Fear and uncertainty can become overwhelming.

Willow doesn’t need to know the diagnosis.

She just knows when it’s time to be there.

Sometimes that means quietly sitting beside a parent.

Sometimes it means putting her head in a child’s lap.

Sometimes it means convincing a sibling that, for five wonderful minutes, the most important thing happening in the world is playing with a dog.

Those moments matter.

Comfort Is Part of Care

A child’s medical crisis affects the entire family.

Parents worry. Siblings feel the disruption. Routines disappear. And the emotional weight of long days and uncertain answers can build quickly.

Willow provides something beautifully simple:

A pause.

A few minutes when nobody has to talk about procedures, test results or tomorrow’s schedule.

A moment to smile.

A reason to laugh.

A little bit of normal in a world that suddenly feels anything but normal.

Sometimes comfort is a warm meal waiting after a long day.

Sometimes it’s a room just steps from your child.

And sometimes…

it has four paws and a wagging tail.

More Than a House Dog

Willow’s impact isn’t limited to our families.

She’s also pretty good at keeping an eye on our staff, volunteers and visitors.

Working around families experiencing medical crises can carry its own emotional weight. Willow has an uncanny ability to show up at just the right time with a nudge, a lean or an invitation to stop for a minute.

Around here, we call that executive leadership.

Her management style is unconventional.

Her performance reviews are outstanding.

And her compensation package consists primarily of treats; belly rubs and the occasional nap.

Follow Willow's Adventures

When Willow isn’t busy serving families, supervising staff or conducting important treat-related research, you may find her welcoming visitors, attending Ronald McDonald House events or representing our mission throughout the community.

Keep an eye on our social media channels to see what our Director of Comfort & FUN Development is up to next.

Sometimes Healing Looks Different

Sometimes healing looks like medicine.

Sometimes it looks like rest.

Sometimes it looks like a hug.

And sometimes it looks like a wagging tail.

At Ronald McDonald House Coastal Empire, we believe comfort is part of care.

Willow makes sure we never forget it.
